Completed registration forms are due Tuesday, March 26th to your students fifth period teacher. Saturday Math Help is this Saturday, March 23 in room 17 from 8:30-12:30 pm. Pizza will be served.
Social Media Workshop: Our PTO is hosting a FREE Social Media Workshop on Thursday, March 28 at 6:30 pm in the Matilija auditorium. Guest speaker Shane Bruce, MA, LMFT will discuss invaluable skills you need to help your child cope with the pressure and anxiety of using social media, learn about social media and the effects on the brain,engage with other parents in Q & A, and much more. Refreshments will be served.
Fundraiser: Don’t forget about our ongoing fundraiser - Script. If you purchase groceries (which I know you do), purchase cards from us instead of using your debit card and earn our school money. Poetry and Short Story Contest: The Oak View Women’s Club is sponsoring a Poetry and Short Story Contest for students throughout the Ojai Valley. Come by the main office for rules and entry form. Deadline is April 19th. March Character Trait is Cooperation. Every month we will have a new character trait to recognize students’ good character. This month’s character trait is Cooperation. If we see your student working together and being cooperative, we will give him/her a “Cooperation” award. Please have him/her put it in the box in the library for a drawing to win a gift card at the end of the month. Matilija Soccer Tryouts: Boys and girls soccer tryouts are scheduled for March 25th, 26th, and 27th after school on the field from 2:30 to 3:30 pm.. ALL students must have an updated (2018/2019) completed physical packet on file to try out - NO exceptions. Summer Career Camps: The Career Education Center (CEC) in Camarillo is offering amazing camps from July 1-July 26 for grades 6 - 8 and 9-12. Examples of camps being offered: Auto, Aviation, Business, Dental, Film and TV Makeup, Mock Trial, STEM, Video Production, and much, much more. Young Filmmakers Competition: The Ojai Film Society is having their 8th annual Young Filmmakers Competition. This is a great opportunity to show off your movie skills. You must enrolled in the OUSD and submit a reel of no longer than 15 minutes of any genre. Entries are judged by professional Filmmakers and monetary awards given. Submission deadline is April 20th. Come by the main office for a flyer and go to www.OjaiFilmSociety.org/OFSYouth for an application. Girls/Boys Empowerment Workshops are being offered to all MJHS students. The Empowerment Workshop aims to educate, empower and inspire teens awareness, developing communication skills and cultivating self-respect. We do this through interactive, facilitated lessons and discussions with trained facilitators, focusing on issues surrounding teens in today's world. Girls will meet every Wed, starting April 10 from 1:30-3:00 and boys will meet every Mon starting April 15 from 2:30-4:00. Meetings will be at MJHS and specific location will be TBA Permission slips required and can be picked up in the main office. Poster Contest: T he 2019 Ventura County Fair is having a Poster Contest. If you like to draw, paint, collage or do some other type of 2-dimensional artwork, this if for you. Come by the main office for rules and entry form. Deadline for submission is Friday, April 5.
Nordhoff Football invites incoming 9th grade students to play on the NHS Football Team! No experience is necessary; you just need the drive to work hard and get in shape. [email protected]. 8th Grade Promotion is quickly approaching and we are heading into the last trimester of 8th grade at Matilija. Our promotion policy states if you have 2 F’s, or 1 F and 2 D’s, or 4 D’s you may not participate in any of the promotion activities. These activities include the Eagles Cup Competition, the 8th grade Promotion Dance and the Promotion Ceremony. You must also have a 90 or above in citizenship points. Promotion is scheduled for June 12th at 7p.m. at the Nordhoff High School field. Wildfire Safety Fair: The Ojai Valley Fire Safe Council want you to learn how to keep your home and family safe. They will be offering a fun free event on Saturday, April 13 from 10am to 2pm at Sarazotti Park. There will be a kid’s fun zone, live music, free raffle with prizes and food and drink. El reglamento de nuestra promoción declara que si un estudiante tiene 2 F (insuficientes), o 1 F (insuficiente) y 2 D ( regulares), o 4 D (regulares) no puede participar en ninguna de las actividades de promoción. Estas actividades incluyen la Competencia de Eagles Cup, el Baile de Promoción de octavo grado y la Ceremonia de Promoción. El estudiante también debe tener 90 o más puntos de conducta. La Ceremonia de Promoción está prevista para el 12 de junio a las 7 pm en el campo de Nordhoff High School. Feria de la Seguridad en Incendios Forestales: El Ojai Valley Fire Safe Council quiere que aprendan cómo mantener la seguridad de su familia y su hogar.
