A VISIBLE GOD

We find it difficult to convey ideas to people unless we can actually show them something, demonstrate what we mean. God, who is invisible and truly beyond human understanding, apparently faces the same difficulty. People want to see, not just listen to an idea. So God gave us Jesus Christ, God made visible in the world. During these past weeks we have seen how Jesus was revealed as an infant to the shepherds and the magi, and then began his adult “public life” at his baptism by John. Today’s Gospel reading tells us of his “first sign,” providing wine for the wedding guests at Cana. Of course, even Jesus, God made visible, was not always easily understood in his own day, nor is he even now. So we have to ponder what we see: the poverty and simplicity of his birth, his humility and openness before John the Baptist, his kindness and compassion toward people in their ordinary problems, such as running short of wine at a wedding. Moveable Feasts for the Holy Year of Preparation 2019 in the Diocese of Orange On the sixth day of March will fall Ash Wednesday, and the beginning of the fast of the most sacred Lenten season. On the twenty first day of April you will celebrate with joy Easter Day, the Paschal feast of our Lord Jesus Christ. On the second day of June will be the Ascension of our Lord Jesus Christ. On the ninth day of June, the feast of Pentecost. On the twenty third day of June the feast of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. On the seventeenth day of July will be the Dedication of Christ Cathedral, the mother Church of our Diocese. On the first day of December, the First Sunday of the Advent of our Lord Jesus Christ, to whom is honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen

Fiestas Movibles para el Año Santo de Preparación 2019 en la Diocese de Orange El Miércoles de Ceniza comienzo de la Cuaresma, que celebramos el día seis de marzo. La Ascensión del Señor, que este año será celebrada el día dos de junio. El domingo de Pentecostés, que este año celebraremos el nueve de junio. El domingo del Cuerpo y la Sangre de Cristo, que este año será celebrado el veintitrés de junio. La dedicación de Christ Cathedral, la iglesia madre de nuestra diócesis, que celebraremos el diecisiete de julio. El primer domingo de Adviento, que celebraremos el día primero de diciembre. También en las fiestas de la santísima Virgen María, Madre de Dios, de los apóstoles, de los santos y en la conmemoración de todos los fieles difuntos, la Iglesia, peregrina en la tierra, proclama la Pascua de su Señor. A Él, el Cristo glorioso, el que era, el que es y el que vendrá, al que es Señor del tiempo y de la historia, todo honor y toda gloria por los siglos de los siglos. Amen
