The  present  tense  of     DECIR   (to  say  /to  tell)   has  an  irregular  yo  form…

also  requires  a  stem  change   for  all  forms…  except   nosotros/as   &   vosotros/as      

yo  digo   nosotros  decimos       tú    dices   vosotros  decís       él/ella/Ud.  dice   ellos  dicen  

If  we  look  at  it  with  different  colors,  you’ll  see   how  the  stem  changes  stand  out  more  clearly:

When  you  are  summarizing  what   someone  says,  aIer  decir  use  que   and  then  an  expression  or  phrase   that  follows:    

Sra.  Zaldívar  dice  que     la  universidad  es  muy  grande.  

 

Try  transla*ng  the  following  sentences:  

Carmen  says  that  she  likes  enchiladas.   Carmen  dice  que     a  ella  le  gustan  las  enchiladas.  

I  always  tell  the  truth.   Yo  siempre  digo  la  verdad.  

Juan  says  he  is  Ored.   Juan  dice  que  está  cansado.
