This course is designed for students seeking to develop the four communication skills; listening, speaking, reading and writing. These strands are expressed in the National Standards in Foreign Language Education revised by ACTFUL and the World Languages Department of the State of Oklahoma. The stated and newly designated World-Readiness Standards for Learning Languages build on the existing and now familiar five goals (Communication, Cultures, Connections, Comparisons, and Communities) create a roadmap to guide learners to develop competence to communicate effectively and interact with cultural understanding. “WorldReadiness” signals that the Standards have been revised with important changes to focus on the literacy developed and the real-world applications. Learners who add another language and culture to their preparation are not only college- and career-ready, but are also “world-ready”—that is, prepared to add the necessary knowledge, skills, and dispositions to their résumés for entering postsecondary study or a career. PRESENT TENSE of verbos SER, HACER, LLEVAR Lesson 2- La escuela – Reviewing classroom rules, vocabulary related to classes, school activities, supplies, and objects found in school. PRESENT TENSE of verbos TENER, PONER, TRAER, etc Lesson 3- El Tiempo Libre- Reviewing vocabulary about school and extracurricular activities, sports and places, Hace + Time expressions . Understanding cultural perspectives on extracurricular activities. PRESENT TENSE of verbos IR, CORRER, JUGAR, LEER, SABER, CONOCER, etc… Lesson 4- La Ropa y el Cuerpo- Reinforcing vocabulary for body parts and clothing. Describing getting ready for events, express possession, talking about daily routines, people and things. Understanding cultural perspectives of clothing. Start PRETERIT TENSE of verbos GUSTAR, QUERER, PODER, DEBER, PREFERIR, IR A etc. Lesson 5- Reflexive verbs. Daily routines, logical routines, healthy habits. Verbs LAVARSE, DESPERTARSE, VERTIRSE, ACOSTARSE, DUCHARSE, CEPILLARSE etc.. 2nd Quarter: Lesson 6- Verbos SER and ESTAR – differences and applicability. Possessive Adjectives, Lesson 7- Queres ir de Compras? Reviewing vocabulary related to shopping, sales, personal data numbers, cardinal numbers, PRETERIT TENSES of verbos MIRAR, COMPRAR, BUSCAR, USAR, PAGAR etc.. Lesson 8- Los Quehaceres- Vocabulary related to chores and places in a community, telling time, PRETERIT forms of IR, SER, HACER, TENER, ESTAR, PODER etc.. Lesson 9-Las preposiciones y los medios de transporte- Reviewing prepositions and words for modes of transportation, giving or following directions and special landmarks in a city. PRETERIT TENSES Verbos SALIR, DECIR, VENIR etc..

Lesson 10- Una celebración- Reviewing vocabulary for family members, childhood, food, table settings, games, party activities and party decorations. IMPERFECT TENSE of verbs SER, ESTAR, JUGAR, TENER, OFRECER, VIVIR, COMER etc… Lesson 11- Celebrando los días festivos- Talk about greetings and leave-takings, celebrations, family and social occasions, family members, friendship, inappropriate behavior etc. REVIEW PRETERIT of verbos SONREIR, ABRAZAR, SALUDAR etc. Attendance and Class Rules Attendance is extremely important to success in a foreign language class. When you come to class, remember you have to follow to these terms; 1. Use your Cellular phones during lectures ONLY for research reasons. Please, don’t text message and socialize during instructional time to avoid disruption of instruction. 2. You are expected to participate and cooperate; 3. We work as a team ( We stay together) 4. Arrive on time and be seated before the tardy bell rings 5. Use class time for Spanish only 6. Bring materials (notebook, spiral, paper, and color pens) to class 7. Follow all school rules established by the Muskogee High School Student Handbook 8. Raise your hand to ask questions and when in need of additional help or explanations 9. Have high expectations for yourself, your classmates and teacher and Spanish III. Make up Work Unless you have a medical excuse or any other emergency, late work will not be accepted. If you miss a test, notify me immediately for make-up work. Make up work IS NEVER GIVEN DURING CLASS. Take all tests on time! Grading Policy All assignments and tests will be announced and it will all be posted on Mondays on the board. Basically, my evaluation of your progress will focus on your ability to use Spanish for communication, whether written or oral. The intent of every classroom activity, homework assignment, and test will be to that purpose. Then,  Homework, participation, use of Spanish with accurate pronunciation, paired, group, and class activities (written and oral) count 25% of your grade.  Written and oral tests (exams and quizzes), tapes, and project count 75% of your grade. Recommended Spanish Dictionary (501 Spanish verbs), notebook, two folders, pen, pencil, color pencil, color pen Special Activities

Spanish Club- Come and participate!!! Watch and listen for announcements! (Perspectives of the Hispanic culture, videos, games, field trips, luncheons, dinners, Hispanic celebrations, etc.) ¡PARTICIPEN EN EL CLUB DE ESPAÑOL!FIESTA!!!!! We are going to have fun!!!
