Pastor's Corner What a weekend it has been! I am given the impossible task of tying three important events together in this tiny space, all of which multiple doctorate dissertations could be written…and thus the challenge of being a Catholic Pastor in today’s world. The three events of course, are the Inauguration of President Donald J. Trump, the Women’s March in Washington, and the anniversary of the Supreme Court landmark decision “Roe vs. Wade”, which legalized abortion for all 9 months of life in the womb. We have heard many explanations for the election of President Trump. I happen to believe it was a perfect storm of many reasons, but one that I have yet to hear even mentioned by the main stream in the post-election coverage, is the fact that Hilary Clinton was proudly and militantly pro-choice. For any citizen that finds themselves deeply concerned, that conservatively, since 1973, Fifty-eight million babies have been legally put to death in the United States (Google it), they found themselves in an incredible conundrum. This was especially true, since NEITHER candidate was Pro-Life in the way that our Faith teaches us. To truly live our Catholic Social Teaching we must defend the life and the dignity of every human person from the womb until natural death. We must have a fundamental option for the poor, vulnerable, and those without voice. We must be in solidarity with the human family and take care of God’s Creation. We have an obligation to educate ourselves and our consciences as to what is an authentic Right and have a civic duty to perform our responsibilities as citizens. As Americans we must always defend Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness…in that order. In this sense, neither Candidate was Pro-Life. Yet immediately at stake is the nomination of a member of the Supreme Court. This decision and perhaps others will shape the Supreme Court for the next decade. If we are to have hope of overturning Roe vs. Wade, if we are to stop the genocide that is occurring, if we are to recognize that this Law is unjust as many before it (think women’s right to vote and desegregation) We must turn the tide now. I would like to believe that many voted for Trump for this reason. I know many that did. What does this have to do with the women’s March? Everything. Given the restraints of space, I will say in the forefront that women’s rights are essential. We teach as Catholics that men and women are 100% equal. So an effort to protest a President that has clearly had a disrespectful attitude towards women is not only understandable but required. I would add my protest to theirs…however, I am not invited. Not simply because of my gender but because I am pro-life. In fact, the organizers of this March have distanced themselves from any group they consider “anti-choice”. (You won’t hear this in the main stream.) I quote from an official clarification , “The Woman’s March platform is pro-choice and that has been our stance from day one…we look forward to marching on

behalf of individuals who share the view that women deserve the right to make their own reproductive decisions.” (Read: have an abortion) Four women that I know that would be “persona non grata” at these demonstrations are my mother and my three sisters all of whom are staunchly pro-life. Now you will say that they are welcome to participate anyway. But how can they in conscience lend their voices and their witness to something that involves the killing of babies. Thus we have I reached the ultimate point of this letter. The issue of legal abortion has not only decimated two generations of children it has wounded countless women as well…(for every abortion might have this as a definition: 1 dead, 1 wounded). The legalization of abortion has infected the political process; it has rendered our Nation impotent of moral authority, for we cannot say that we defend human rights much less women’s rights if we do not defend the most innocent and vulnerable among us. The legalization of abortion has helped us to be a divided Nation and it has scattered and confused the message that many well intentioned women will be bringing to Washington on Saturday. (Women ought to be respected period!) Unfortunately this message will be lost, until all women are respected… even those in the womb! Watch the coverage for the women’s Pro-choice March and then watch the coverage for the Pro-life March next Friday. You tell me if you think they are given equal coverage. Then tell me if you think we don’t have our work cut out for us…no matter who the President is!

embargo, no estoy invitado. Pr. Stewart
