Parents, this last month we focused our reading skills on “Story Elements”. These are the parts of the story that make the story. Without these elements there is no story. You can help us at home by reading fictional books with your child and ask them to give you the story elements. This time can be used as a bonding moment between you. The students will be required to write their own fictional story using all of the story elements. In writing, we focused this month on writing proper sentences and paragraphs. The students learned about the 4 types of sentences: Declarative, interrogative, imperative, and exclamatory. Knowing the difference will help the students write a better paragraph and a more creative story. In Math, we continue to review 5th grade skills which are very important to the understanding of the 6th grade material. The 5th grade skills support out 6th grade level and it’s impossible to continue without a solid foundation. We ask that you help your child by quizzing them on their times tables 2-12. We are currently testing students on their time-table strengths and your help will be appreciated.

Parents, meet our new mascot… there will be a naming contest for our NVE mascot. Students will be able to turn in their name idea. Who knows, maybe your child will win, but you won’t win if you don’t enter!

septiembre 2018 Estimados padres, el mes pasado enfocamos nuestras habilidades de lectura en "Elementos de la historia". Estas son las partes de la historia que hacen la historia más eficaz. Sin estos elementos, no hay historia. Puede ayudarnos en casa leyendo libros de ficción con su hijo y pidiéndoles que le proporcionen los elementos de la historia. Esta actividad la pueden utilizar como un momento de unión entre ustedes. Se requiera que los estudiantes escriban historias reales usando todos los elementos de la historia. Este mes en escritura, nos enfocamos en escribir oraciones y párrafos apropiados. Los estudiantes aprendieron sobre los 4 tipos de oraciones: declarativo, interrogativo, imperativo y exclamativo. Al conocer la diferencia ayudará a los estudiantes a escribir un párrafo mejor y una historia más efectiva. En Matemáticas, continuamos revisando las habilidades de 5to grado que son muy importantes para la comprensión del material del 6º grado. Las habilidades de quinto grado respaldan el nivel de sexto grado y es imposible continuar sin una base sólida. Le pedimos que ayude a su hijo preguntándoles sus tablas de multiplicar 2-12. Actualmente estamos evaluando a los estudiantes en las tablas, y les agradeciéramos su ayuda.

Padres, conozcan a nuestra mascota nueva... Habrá un concurso para escoger el nombre de nuestra mascota de NVE. Los estudiantes podrán entregar el nombre que ellos escojan a la oficina. Esperemos que su hijo/a gane el concurso pero recuerden que tienen que participar para ganar.
