April 2017 Ideas to Implement the Pastoral Plan

small effort.....BIG Impact! o

Mass Intentions: Nearly every parish bulletin provides a listing of the Mass intentions for that week. Holy Family Parish in Copperas Cove includes “What does it mean to have a Mass offered for someone?” This is a really great idea to instruct the faithful about the purpose of Mass intentions as well as to evangelize those who may not understand the reason. Prayers for the Sick: Last year, a section of the weekly bulletin at St. Anthony Parish in Kyle was featured because it not only posts names of those who are sick and in need of prayer, it also includes a beautiful prayer that can be used for this purpose. Holy Family Church Parish in Copperas Cove is another great example of this very helpful practice. It encourages parishioners to pray for others and provides an example in the weekly bulletin. Liturgy of the Hours Prayers for those in the Military St. Mary’s Parish in Lockhart has a wonderful webpage that includes a brief explanation of the Liturgy of the Hours and a link to the US Bishops’ website, which provides more information about the Divine Office. St. Mary’s site also encourages parishioners to pray for the women and men serving in the military and provides a beautiful prayer for them. New This Month Family Ministry at St. Catherine Parish in Austin is one of the most developed family ministries in the diocese. It offers: support groups for parents new to the role of parenting, marriage enrichment opportunities, workshops designed to increase the many ways we can truly live out the call "to love one another as I have loved you," parenting classes, and much more. Creighton University offers one of the most remarkable online resources for prayer, retreats and spirituality for individuals and groups. The resources include daily reflections, online retreats, video presentations and more. Easter Books - We all know that Easter Mass means record attendance and a packed house. But what are we doing to continue the momentum as people leave? But what if it was as simple as just handing them a great Catholic book on their way into church? Easter Books is transforming parishes around the nation with this simple, powerful idea: Books change our lives. What we read today walks and talks with us tomorrow. Sometimes all it takes is the right book to bring people back to church. Learn how YOU can make a difference at your parish this Easter. Order 500 copies or more of one of the featured titles for just $1 (plus fifty cents shipping) per book. Or order 6–499 copies for $3 per book (includes shipping). At Easter Masses, friendly volunteers pass out the books as people come to church. Then encourage people to read the book through regular and inspiring announcements.
