A Roman Catholic Stewardship Church Our Mission With the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we, the Roman Catholic Community of Santiago de Compostela aspire to proclaim in word and action the living Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Let us Reflect...

MASS SCHEDULE:

Today is the Second Sunday of Lent. This week is about beloved sons, Isaac and Jesus. In the first reading from Genesis, Abraham is told to sacrifice his only son. He prepares to do just that. The reading from Romans reminds us that God's only Son was sacrificed for us. In the passage from Mark's Gospel, the disciples are shown that Jesus is God's beloved Son. In each of these readings a beloved son is brought to the brink of death. Abraham's obedience and trust in God is tested. Jesus is not tested but revealed to his disciples, who do not understand what they are seeing. Abraham and the disciples are told to listen. By listening they are brought beyond death into life. Our Lenten preparation is about listening for the word of God even when, like Abraham and the disciples, we are asked to do what we think we cannot do.

February 25, 2018

Second Sunday of Lent evening in English and Spanish that has the Lenten Dinners in between the two prayer events. We have distributed the books of Reflections for Lent that is a source for prayer and meditation.

By this time, we have physically began the construction of our Patio-Parish Hall Annex, which hopefully will be February 25, 2018 finished before summer. We need you full support to see it to its completion. My Dearest Parish Family, Working together, this will be one of our legacies to the future members of God be with us always. our Parish Family. Thank you for all Let me ask you this, have you your help. God bless and take care. responded yet to the invitation of Love and prayers, Jesus? If you think I am referring just to the PSA Appeal, then you are mistaken. I am referring to the invite to enter into the Spirit of Lent that began last Ash Wednesday. Committing to Fr. Thomas Paul K. Naval participate in the PSA is just one of the ways we can practice caring for each other in a concrete way to people in need who are right in the our own Diocese, our own county.

JMJ

During Advent and Lent, I ask myself what is my story? Where is God leading me? What is God teaching me? How is God transforming me? I also have had a refrain I tell myself which is: “And so it begins.” When God calls us through the Prophet Joel, “Come back to me with all your heart.” It is said with compassion and such longing to help us become better and be transformed by grace. Lent is not just about examining our lives – realizing our sins, our weaknesses, our faults. It is about learning to be open to the guidance of the Spirit towards a change of lifestyle, of living that practices our faith, hope and love. True faith involves entering deeper into the relationship with God through prayer. This helps us discern what to do beyond merely being forgiven to being transformed by the experience of God’s mercy. During Lent we have added a Wednesday 6:00 pm Mass so that those who are pressed for time in the mornings can come in the evenings to be with the Lord in the Eucharist.

We also have our Weekly Stations of Durante el Adviento y la Cuaresma, me the Cross every Friday afternoon and pregunto ¿cuál es mi historia? ¿A dónde

Fr. Thomas Paul K. Naval

Together we are united in the Catholic faith knowing that through your generosity many people will be served. Thank you for your participation in the life of Santiago de Compostela and the Diocese of Orange.

Foreign Currency and Tithing From time to time we receive foreign currency in our Sunday collection. Unfortunately, we are not able to deposit foreign monies with our bank. We appreciate our parishioner’s time, talent, and U.S. treasure!

JR HIGH MINISTRY What is our JR HI Ministry up to lately? With Lent approaching, we took a trip to our local Catholic Worker Isaiah House Homeless Shelter in Santa Ana. Our students packed a breakfast meal for the ladies who reside there. We felt honored to meet and chat with folks during breakfast. Residents have no other place to live due to lack of money, loss of jobs, extreme medical expenses, or other crisis in their lives. Our students enjoyed being there and reflected: “I learned so much about my community and its needs. It gave me a sense of pride and helpfulness by giving food to these nice ladies. I believe it was a once in a lifetime experience for me, and I will never forget any of them, especially Mary (name changed) she was super nice.” Another wrote, “I enjoyed my stay at Isaiah House-- I’ve learned about the many good people there. I hope I can come again and help.”

In Acts 20:7-12, we have the story of Eutychus whose name means “Lucky”. He is the young man who was sitting on a window sill and fell asleep while Paul was talking. He fell from the third story of the building and when picked up was dead. Paul threw himself upon him and told everyone not to be alarmed as there was still life in him. This happened on the first day of the week and Paul celebrated this day with breaking of bread, and long conversation before he departed. The boy was taken away ALIVE!
