Second and Special Collection Procedures Our Sunday Liturgies are central to our life as a Parish Family. Having said so, we try our very best to make the Eucharist flow and have the least distractions as possible. This has always been the direction the Roman Rubrics remind us to implement. I have presided the Liturgy over the last three years here at our parish. During my time here, I have observed the second collection causes distraction by having the baskets being passed around during the Liturgy of the Eucharist especially at the MAY 21, 2017 Consecration. This situation prevents both the Presider and the congregation from focusing fully on the mystery unfolding in our presence. Having the basket passed around defeats the purpose behind second collection an encouragement into being more engaged in our solidarity with the beneficiaries in need of our support. It becomes an afterthought instead of a purposeful giving. In an effort to address this liturgical concern and to promote intentional charity, we shall be having a new procedure for the Second Collection which has been approved by the Finance Council and agreed upon in the meeting of the Hospitality Ministers. The procedure is; the basket will only be passed once for both Sunday Offertory and Second Collection donation to be placed. All checks need the beneficiary written on the memo portion. Our diligent money counters will make sure that they are separated and submitted to the Diocese for remittance to the beneficiary. I thank you for being understanding and for your cooperation regarding the enhancement of our Sunday Masses and Liturgies. God bless and take care. Fr. Thomas Paul K. Naval

JMJ November 19, 2017 My Dearest Parish Family, God be with us always.

from fear and filled with the conviction cuando los filipinos se reúnen hay tres that we shall overcome. cosas que se destacan: nos encanta Third, is LOVE that binds all three into a comer, nos encanta reír y nos ENCANTA deeper union with Jesus Christ whose tomar “selfies”. Mientras él continuaba, Paschal Mystery is the essence of the reflexioné brevemente y conecté ésto con Eucharist. We seek to experience first nuestras celebraciones parroquiales, hand the mercy and compassion of God. especialmente con la Eucaristía. He binds our wounds and the wounds we inflict because of our weaknesses. Our Lord Jesus heals and strengthens us. Our communion is not just with Jesus but also with one another. We are all in this together – our Parish Mission is a challenge and mandate for us all.

In the Homily and Keynote Address of Bishop Solis during the Opening Mass of the National Assembly of Filipino Priests in USA he mentioned that when Filipinos gather there are three things that stand out: we love to eat, we love to laugh and we LOVE to take pictures. While he continued, I briefly reflected and connected this to our parish celebrations, especially the Eucharist.

So we are called upon to be faithful servants of the Gospel bringing into our celebration our individual gifts so people may experience the Joy, Faith and Love. These three make the grace of Hope concrete, which is a necessity in our times when we are faced with so much events that test our trust in God. We must try to be faithful servants by using the gifts we are given; to be a leaven of I asked myself the question: “When we faith, hope and love in our times. God gather for Sunday Mass – the Lord’s Day bless and take care. - what three things stand out?” A parishioner briefly mentioned to me on Love and prayers, Sunday as she shook my hand, that she has gone to another Church while on vacation and noticed a difference between our Parish and the one she attended. In that moment, I gave her Fr. Thomas thanks and told her “praise to God who through the Spirit guides and blesses our celebration of the Mass.” So what three things should stand out in our Masses especially on Sunday? First is JOY – we try to enhance this further by building our community through knowing each other’s names. We finally get to know the names of people we have been sitting beside us for many years. First time visitors to our Parish have commented how they felt welcome and feel the joy of our community. We emerge from our Eucharist inspired, motivated and filled with God’s loving JMJ presence. Second, is FAITH because it ushers the fullness of the Presence of God. It is keeps everything real and grace becomes tangible for all of us who gather at the Lord’s Table. The power of the Living Word proclaimed transforms us into the living witnesses of the Good News. We bring into our lives and in the lives of others what it means to live free

Fr. Thomas

WORLD DAY OF THE POOR— NOVEMBER 19, 2017 In his apostolic letter to close the Year of Mercy, Pope Francis suggested the Catholic Church set aside one day each year when communities can “reflect on how poverty is at the very heart of the Gospel.” He designated this day as the “World Day of the Poor.” It will be celebrated on the thirty-third Sunday in Ordinary time (two Sundays before the season of Advent each year.) The inaugural World Day of the Poor is Sunday, November 19, 2017.

In order to keep our Parish more presentable and organized, we ask for your cooperation. Holders have been placed in our pews and need to be kept organized as best as possible by taking the envelope(s) you need and not putting pressure on the holders since they are fragile. We thank you for helping us keep Santiago de Compostela a welcoming parish!

2018 The Reception Office will be taking Mass Intention Requests for the first quarter of 2018 (January through March) after December 1st, and will continue to do so until that quarter is booked. The requested donation remains $10 per Mass. For more information, please contact our Reception Office. The schedule for quarterly start dates are as follows: • December 1st = January – March • March 1st = April – June • June 1st = July – September • September 1st = October -December

HERE ARE 5 WAYS YOU CAN OBSERVE THE WORLD DAY OF THE POOR: 1. Pray for the poor: there are so many people who need our prayers. 4. 2. Practice the corporal works of mercy: these are drawn from Jesus’ life and teachings. They call us to: feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, shelter the homeless, visit 5. the sick and imprisoned, bury the dead and give alms to the poor. 3. Make caring for the poor part of your routine: support low-income workers around the world by buying things you use on a regular basis from organizations that pay a fair wage. As you begin your

Christmas shopping, consider buying gifts from around the world that are produced and traded ethically. Learn about the causes of poverty and work to change them: we can raise our voices together to ask our government to support policies that help address these causes of poverty. Support the church’s outreach to the poor: support the work of Catholic Relief Services, the international humanitarian agency , motivated by the example of Jesus Christ to assist poor and suffering people in more than 100 countries.
