Blessing of the Animals Saturday, October 7 at 9am In celebration of St. Francis of Assisi’s Feast Day, we welcome parishioner’s pets for a special blessing. We will congregate with our animals around the fountain at 9am.

EUCHARISTIC AND SAINT BOOKS By Fr. Stephen Lesniewki In the month of October, books written by our very own parochial vicar, Fr. Stephen Lesniewki, will be available every Sunday after mass. Your generous donation will go towards his pro-life ministry which helps many struggling women and their babies, but most importantly helps share the importance of life to the world. First Friday Holy Hour October 6th Each first Friday of the month we have 24 hour Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament (from 8am Friday to 8am Saturday) with the Holy Hour of Prayer on Friday at 7pm. Adoration ends Saturday morning with Benediction before the 8am Mass.

October 1, 2017 RECYCLING WE NEED YOUR RECYCLABLES. The Knights need your help in collecting recyclables. Your recyclables are a gift to those in need. The “Lord” asks that we reach out to others and this can be your way to do so. We look forward to seeing all of you Saturday October 14th, 2017. Journey of Hope The Ministry for the Divorced and Separated Support Group Santiago de Compostela Catholic Church will be hosting a 13-week program to support our brothers and sisters through the emotional pain of divorce and separation. Starting every Saturday, September 16, thru December 16, 2017 from 3:15pm to 4:45pm., located in the Parish Hall, Room E and F. $35 donation for book supplies. Hope and Wellness Email Santiago de Compostela is pleased to announce yet another avenue for hope and peace in Christ’s presence, as support to those in need of assistance via email address [email protected]. The email is aiding those in need and is strictly confidential providing resources and direction to those who reach out for support or information. Our goal is to raise the awareness of and dispel the negative perceptions associated with mental illness. We have a directory in place with a staff of trained professionals and resources available to address each individual’s issues. They range from social services, housing, psychiatrists, psychologists, medical clinics, emergency assistance and community resources available to all of us.

BAPTISM MINISTRY What is the Baptism Ministry? We assist the priest or deacon during the actual baptismal rite and facilitate the preparation class for parents requesting baptism for their child. Two (2) distinct ways to serve:

Free Flu Clinic-2017 Mission Hospital is proud to offer free flu vaccines to those who do not have access to health care. Segundo Fin de Semana del Mes 8 de Octubre a la 1:45pm LIBROS DE SANTOS Y LA EUCARISTIA Autor: Fr. Stephen Lesniewki En el mes de octubre, libros escritos por nuestro propio vicario, Fr. Stephen Lesniewki, estarán disponibles todos los domingos después de Misa. Su generosa donación contribuirá al ministerio pro-vida que ayuda a mujeres con dificultades y a sus bebes, pero lo mas importante ayuda a compartir con el mundo, la importancia de la vida.

¿De qué le sirve al hombre ganar al mundo, si pierde su alma? Hace unos días pasé por una escuela católica en San juan Capistrano y tenían un letrero gigante, con la foto de un joven que fue escogido para jugar en las grandes ligas de baseball. En el anuncio, se podía leer: “estamos muy orgullosos de ti”. Este letrero suscitó en mí un pensamiento de preocupación porque siento que algunas veces las escuelas católicas están más enfocadas en producir grandes atletas que grandes santos. Están más enfocados en el éxito que en la santidad. Éste no es un problema solo de las escuelas católicas, yo veo que en estos tiempos muchos de nuestros hijos sueñan con ser grandes deportistas, ricos y famosos y muchas veces este pensamiento no es solo del joven, también sus padres se esfuerzan, dedican mucho tiempo llevando a sus hijos a los entrenamientos, juegos, torneos y buscan que sus hijos sean grandes jugadores, para asegurarles de esta manera que triunfen en la vida. Con esto no quiero decir que el deporte sea malo, el problema aparece cuando el centro de la vida está puesto en diferentes objetivos como el deporte y Dios queda en último lugar. ¡Algunas veces el ir a misa, al catecismo, tener vida de oración no es importante y la vida espiritual de los niños es poca o nada! Hermanos y hermanas, procuren que su hijo también tenga una vida espiritual plena, ésta es la responsabilidad primaria de los padres de familia, recordemos que en el Catecismo de la Iglesia Católica (#1656) se nos recuerda que “el Concilio Vaticano II llama a la familia, “Iglesia Doméstica”, y se nos dice que “en el seno de la familia, los padres han de ser para sus hijos los primeros anunciadores de la fe con su palabra y con su ejemplo, y han de fomentar la vocación personal de cada uno y, con especial cuidado, la vocación a la vida consagrada" (LG 11). ¿De qué le sirve al hombre ganar el mundo si se pierde su alma?
