Special Collection September 9th and 10th “Hurricane Harvey” This past weekend we have seen the devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey throughout a large part of Texas. As the rain continues, there will be even more devastation. The Roman Catholic Diocese of Orange is not only uniting in prayer but also raising funds for this matter. Everyone is welcome to make any donations. There will be two baskets in the altar designated for this matter. Thank you for your support of this important effort.

The “Lord” asks that we reach out to others and this can be your way to do so. We look forward to seeing all of you Saturday September 9th, 2017. Journey of Hope The Ministry for the Divorced and Separated Support Group Santiago de Compostela Catholic Church will be hosting a 13-week program to support our brothers and sisters through the emotional pain of divorce and separation. Writers' Ministry Workshop Come one, Come All! Bring your inner passion for writing, whether in verse or in prose, to our next monthly meeting. My Dearest Parish Family, God be with us always. First of all, I hope we all enjoy the last hurrah of summer – Labor Day weekend. Let us not forget however to say a prayer or make a resolution to strive for fair and just labor practices, to promote respect for the dignity of each worker and appreciate the fruits of honest work as well. I would like to extend our gratitude for the Knights who just recently had a very successful and “full-filling” Burger Bash and Ice Cream Social last Saturday. Those who were able to drop by the Parish Hall I am sure enjoyed it . . . like I did! Kudos as well to our Music Director – Andre Rossignol and all those involved in the Music Workshop and Class just held. I am excited to hear the beautiful voices of our Choirs as we gather at the Eucharistic Table. Let us celebrate in a meaningful way the Birthday of Mama Mary on the 8th. Aside from our devotions like the Meditation on the Mysteries of the Rosary and Novenas let us also practice the virtues she lived as the perfect disciple of her Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ. We begin September 9th our Parish Mission Day with our monthly Mass with Anointing of the Sick and Prayer Shawl Imposition on those who need healing, comfort and strength with the afflictions they have. This is one of those moments when we express and experience our solidarity with one another – in hope that no one feels alone. Later that day after the 5:00pm Vigil Mass, Dinner at the Parish Hall; we shall “RECHARGE!” with Patrick Coffin. By attending this, may we truly make an investment towards this opportunity to be renewed and better informed how to face the challenge of discipleship, stewardship and evangelization in our present situation. Like St. Peter in the Gospel today, better of us. However, we know that we are but a prayer and a grace away from picking up where we left our “crosses” and follow Our Lord Jesus Christ. Thank you very much for our parish family members who have already turned in their donation for the tickets to our Festival de Santiago’s Opportunity Drawing. I humbly ask others for your help as well so we can gather much needed resources for our pressing needs. Your contribution at these events and the Sunday Offertory is “what keeps the roof over our heads,” as the saying goes. We are at the last quarter of 2017, experience

tells us that time will be moving fast because we are going to be fully engaged in our faith life. Our Parish Hall will hum again with all the activities involving the Spiritual, Religious, Scriptural and Total Wellness of our parish family. En primer lugar, espero que todos disfruten del último fin de semana de verano celebrando el Día del Trabajo. No olvidemos, sin embargo hacer una oración o una resolución para luchar por prácticas laborales justas, para promover el respeto por la dignidad de cada trabajador y apreciar los frutos de un trabajo honesto. Quisiera extender nuestro agradecimiento a los Caballeros de Colón, quienes el pasado sábado, tuvieron un "Burger Bash and Ice Cream Social" muy exitoso y lleno de satisfacción. Estoy seguro que quienes pudieron pasar por el Salón Parroquial, disfrutaron, ¡como yo lo hice! Felicidades también a nuestro Director Musical Andre Rossignol y todos los que participan en el Taller de Música que acaba de celebrarse. Comenzaremos el 9 de septiembre, nuestro Día de la Misión Parroquial, con la Misa mensual con la Unción de los Enfermos y la Imposición de los Chales de Oración sobre aquellos que necesitan sanación, consuelo y fuerza con las aflicciones que tienen. EsteMAY es uno21, de 2017 esos momentos en que expresamos y experimentamos nuestra solidaridad el uno con el otro, en la esperanza de que nadie se sienta solo. Ese día después de la Misa de Vigilia de las 5:00 pm, habrá una cena en el Salón Parroquial y luego ¡Vamos a “RECARGAR!" Con Patrick Coffin. Al asistir a este evento, podemos realmente hacer una inversión en esta oportunidad de ser renovados y mejor informados de cómo afrontar el reto del discipulado, mayordomía y de la evangelización en nuestra situación actual. Como San Pedro en el Evangelio de hoy, mejor de nosotros. Sin embargo, sabemos que estamos solo a una oración y la gracia para ir y recoger donde dejamos nuestras "cruces" y seguir a Nuestro Señor Jesucristo. Queremos dar las gracias a las familias de nuestra parroquia que ya han entregado su donación por los boletos para el sorteo de de nuestro Festival de Santiago. Les pido humildemente a quienes no lo han hecho, su ayuda también, para así podamos recolectar los recursos tan necesarios para nuestras necesidades que son apremiantes. Su contribución en estos eventos y las colectas dominicales es "lo que mantiene el techo sobre nuestras cabezas", como dice el refrán. Estamos en el último trimestre de 2017, la experiencia nos dice que el tiempo pasará rápido porque vamos a estar plenamente comprometidos con nuestra vida de fe. Nuestro Salón Parroquial volverá a tararear con todas las actividades que involucran el Bienestar Espiritual, Religioso, Escritural y Total de nuestra familia parroquial. September 3, 2017 RCIA/RCIA Registration As the Church liturgical year trends to study and reflection, we, the Santiago faith community, once again prepare for those who seek knowledge and information about our Catholic Christian tradition.

Confirmation News Orientation for parents and first class for students is here! September 5th for Confirmation I (1st year students) from 7pm-9pm September 12th for Confirmation II (2nd year students) from 7pm-9pm Meeting will take place in the parish hall room A to sign in and meet their catechists and leaders. Students will go into their assigned classrooms to have a one hour first class and parents will stay in Room A to discuss the program and calendar details. After class, students will return to the hall to get paperwork signed and turned into the various stations. Please select the retreat that will work with your schedule prior to coming to orientation. We ask you come prepared for the following:

The process of welcome and education in the Catholic Christian tradition is called the Order of the Catechumenate. The Order of the Catechumenate dates to the days immediately death MAYafter 21, the 2017 of Christ. It’s a process whereby unbaptized and those baptized in another Christian tradition come to know, understand and embrace the Catholic faith. Many know and recognize this process as the RCIA program (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults). Are you aware we also have an adapted RCIA program for unbaptized children grades 1 through 12? We offer the adult process in either English or Spanish and the Children’s process is bi-lingual. A medida que las lluvias continúen, se espera aún más desastres e inundaciones. La Diócesis Católica Romana de Orange está unida tanto en oración como en el esfuerzo de recaudar MAY 21, 2017 fondos para ayudar en este caso. Las clases de catequesis en español del nuevo año escolar comenzarán el 8 de septiembre a las 6 pm. Nueva Clase de Biblia en Español

Te invitamos a que participes de la Clase de Biblia en español, una interesante forma de aprender y crecer en nuestra Fe, ofrecida aquí en nuestra parroquia de manera gratuita.

El próximo curso comenzará el jueves 7 de septiembre de 2017 a las 6:45 pm. El Nuevo tema de esta sesión será: PROFUNDIZANDO EN LOS MISTERIOS DEL SANTO ROSARIO ¿Qué conoces del rosario? ¿Dónde se originó? ¿A quién debemos su origen? ¿Sabes que el santo rosario nos habla de la vida de Jesús? No te pierdas la oportunidad de profundizar y entender los misterios del rosario. Recuerda: Todos los jueves a las 6:45 pm en el salón Parroquial. Solo adultos. No habrá cuidado de niños.

¿ES LA PALABRA “IGNORANTE” OFENSIVA? La palabra ignorante NO es una palabra ofensiva. En ocasiones algunas personas usan la palabra “ignorante” con la intención de ofender a alguien, de decirle tonto o de hacerle sentir inferior, pero en realidad, la definición de esta palabra no representa una ofensa. La definición según la Real Academia de la Lengua Española es la siguiente: Ignorancia: “falta de conocimiento”, así que simplemente una persona que es ignorante en algún tema significa que esa persona no tiene conocimiento en ese tema en particular. ¿Les doy un ejemplo? yo soy ignorante en computación, ésto no quiere decir que soy tonto, sino que simplemente, que en lo que se relaciona a computación no se nada, no poseo el conocimiento. Hace unos días al salir de la capilla del Santísimo me fui directo a donde está la imagen de la Virgen de Guadalupe. Me encontré a una mujer frente a la imagen, ella estaba en actitud de adoración, la saludé, y le dije: ¡qué hermosa imagen! Ella me contestó: “si es muy hermosa, y yo soy muy devota de ella”. Siguió diciéndome: “yo hablo con ella y ella me habla, se me aparece muy seguido entre rayos y luces”. Asombrado le contesté: ¿de verdad? Sí, me dijo. Luego por curiosidad le pregunté: ¿asistes a Misa los domingos? Y para mi sorpresa me contestó: “No, yo no vengo a Misa, porque la virgen me dijo que no tenía que asistir a Misa”. ¡La verdad es que me quedé preocupado con esta respuesta! Y recordé que en el libro del profeta Oseas en el capítulo 4, versículo 6 dice: “Mi pueblo muere por falta de conocimiento”. En otras palabras: El pueblo muere por tanta ignorancia. En nuestra Iglesia existen muchas devociones, pero muchos de quienes las practican no tiene el real conocimiento de estas devociones. Por ejemplo: muchos de nosotros tenemos la devoción de rezar el rosario o las novenas, pero ignoramos el origen del rosario y de las novenas. Detrás de estas importantes devociones católicas hay siempre una historia muy interesante y digna de aprender. Yo te invito a que, si te interesa salir de la “ignorancia” acerca del origen del rosario, de por qué es importante rezarlo, o saber si el rosario es bíblico, entre otras muchas dudas, nuestra maestra de Biblia, Maricarmen Roa, estará ofreciendo una clase muy interesante este semestre septiembre – diciembre, sobre el origen del rosario comenzando el día 7 de septiembre a las 6:45 pm en el salón parroquial. ¡No te la pierdas! ¡Dios te bendiga!
