Facility Scheduling Attention all ministry leaders: In an effort to avoid any scheduling issues or conflicts, all requests for scheduling the church, parish hall, or any other part of our facilities needs to be submitted through [email protected]. Thank you for your cooperation.

Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time For these gifts we are grateful: Sunday Offertory (10/16/16) Sunday Offertory: Average Weekly Parish Pay: Total Budgeted Sunday Offertory: Second Collection - Hurricane Matthew:

$ 15,136.66 $ 4,077.25 $ 19,213.91 $ 22,350.00 $ ( 3,136.09) $ 8,615.88

Second Collections: World Mission Sunday October 22 & 23 TODAY IS WORLD MISSION SUNDAY! In announcing his decision to declare a Holy Year of Mercy, Pope Francis said, “Dear brothers and sisters, I have often thought about how the Church might make clear its mission of being a witness to mercy.” Supporting the young churches throughout the world with your prayers and generous gifts is indeed a merciful witness of this mission. The collection today will help missionaries offer the poor of these areas practical help as they share the mercy of God. It will ensure the development of local dioceses, and support the work of priests, religious and lay leaders who serve those on the margins and in most need. Extend your merciful witness to the whole world through your gift in today’s collection for the Society for the Propagation of the Faith!

Church Sound System Renovation If you attended Mass last weekend, you may have noticed a difference in the church sound quality. Last summer the Stewardship Council began a project to improve the audible quality of the spoken word in church. Last week, the system was installed and went “live”. We ask your patience, as there is still fine tuning to be done over the next several weeks. This project was funded by your PSA donations. Thank you for your generosity.

October 23, 2016 Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time The prayer of the lowly pierces the clouds; it does not rest until it reaches its goal, nor will it withdraw till the Most High responds. — Sirach 35:17-18a

Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time JMJ 23 October, 2016 My Dearest Parish Family, God be with us always. Let me take this opportunity to express my sincerest gratitude to all who made our Festival Santiago possible and a great opportunity for us to spend time with each other in fellowship. I really am inspired by the sacrifices of the organizers, volunteers in each of the booths, and more so by those who remained during the cleanup when those very same people had already been there for the past three days. You are heroes in my book. What a beautiful message we hear in the Gospel today – how our Loving Father is not concerned with accomplishments, which was what the Pharisee is enumerating, BUT with a prayer that speaks from the heart – a contrite heart. Come to think of it, the Pharisee was not praising God but himself. We are reminded in the Gospel how we should approach prayer with sincere hearts that have no pretense. Sometimes we just have to say, “Lord, it is what it is – please do help me – I am a sinner”. It is an honest appeal for forgiveness and strength that provide the grace and resolve to be transformed. This is the

prayer we should all remember so well because everything we owe to God. We are a few weeks away from Advent, may we take this opportunity to look into our lives, approach our Loving Father through His Son, our Lord Jesus, with the guidance of the Holy Spirit. The Jubilee Year of Mercy is coming to a close on the Solemnity of Christ the King. Let us pass through the doors that open to the experience of hope and joy; that bears fruit in determination to strive to become better. God bless and take care. Love and prayers,

Realmente me siento mejores.

California Bishops Announce Support for Prop 62 to End the Use of the Death Penalty During this Jubilee Year of Mercy, we, the Catholic Bishops of California support Proposition 62 which would end the use of the death penalty in California. Our commitment to halt the practice of capital punishment is rooted both in the Catholic faith and our pastoral experience. All life is sacred - innocent or flawed - just as Jesus Christ taught us and demonstrated repeatedly throughout His ministry. This focus on the preciousness of human life is fundamental to Christianity and most eloquently expressed in the two great commandments: “You shall love the Lord you God with all your heart...love your neighbor as yourself.” (Mk. 12.30-31) In November - the concluding month of the Year of Mercy - Californians have the opportunity to embrace both justice and mercy (cf. Ps. 85.11) in their voting. We strongly urge all voters to prayerfully consider support for Proposition 62 and opposition to Proposition 66 which will expedite executions in California.
