Change in Posture during Mass In order to continue to foster devotion and belief in the Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist and in conformity to the General Instruction of the Roman Missal (GIRM) Bishop Vann has requested the faithful of the Diocese of Orange to begin kneeling after the Agnus Dei (Lamb of God). Our actions and postures at Mass assist us in remembering that we are in the presence of the Eucharist. There are a few exceptions, such as in case of infirmity or those parishes that are worshipping in a temporary worship space that don’t enjoy the use of kneelers. In those cases, please continue to show reverence through your full active and conscious participation at Mass. We will begin the weekend of August 18th and 19th.

M ISSION B ASILICA T OUR If you have a group that would be interested in having a tour of the inside of the Basilica, Hospitality Minister, Larry Larson can take your group on a 30-40 minute walk around the inside of the Church and provide information on the history of the Basilica. To set up a tour, or to get more information, contact Aralu Moreno in the Pastoral Center at 949-2341360 ext. 360. The Basilica Tour is free of charge, but a donation to the Mission Basilica School is encouraged.

Serra’s Pantry Serra’s Pantry volunteers would like to thank area grocery stores for their donations to our ministry to feed the needy in our community. As a certified partner agency with the Second Harvest Regional Food Bank, our pantry enjoys the support of the following stores that make weekly food donations to our pantry. Trader Joe’s- San Juan Capistrano Trader Joe’s- Laguna Nigel Trader Joe’s- Mission Viejo Ralph’s – San Juan Capistrano Von’s – San Juan Capistrano Costco- San Juan Capistrano Currently Serra’s Pantry is serving on average 444 different families each month in addition to a large contingent of area homeless. We are able to do this through the generosity of our many donors especially the area stores mentioned. Please consider supporting these local grocery stores, as they are so important to our services here at the pantry.

Mission Basilica San Juan Capistrano Free Day Retreat of the Dominican Laity at St. Mary's in Fullerton The Orange County chapter of the Dominican Laity, the lay branch (“secular third order”) of the Order of Preachers of St. Dominic, invites everyone to their annual retreat day on Saturday, August 18, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fullerton (400 W. Commonwealth Ave.).

Join us!! The Sisters of St. Joseph and the Immigration Ministry invite you to join us in a public witness act of prayer and fasting in support of parents and children separated at our borders. Join us on Thursday evenings throughout the summer starting July 19, from 6 p.m. - 7 p.m. on the grassy area by the side entrance to the Basilica on Camino Capistrano. Please bring your family and neighbors.

Become a Wedding Volunteer This would require a 2 to 3 hour commitment one to two times a month on a Friday afternoon or on Saturday, assisting the Wedding Coordinator on the day of the scheduled wedding. STRENGTHENED BY THE BREAD OF LIFE Today we resume the “Bread of Life” discourse from John’s Gospel that began two weeks ago. He makes reference to the Jews’ ancestors who ate manna in the desert. These days we would think primarily of Israel wandering in the desert, but faithful Jews would also have known the story of Elijah that we hear today. Strengthened by food and drink in the desert, the angel of the Lord sends him on his forty-day and forty-night journey (the biblical number for a preparation time). Like the food given to Elijah in the desert, Jesus tells his listeners that he is bread for the life of the world. It is very important that we not stop listening to Jesus after his promise of eternal life—a marvelous promise, but this “reward” is not the only reason we feast on the Bread of Life. We also come to the table to be made strong for the journey of mission, that the whole world might have life in the fullness of Christ. CAMBIO DE POSTURA DURANTE LA MISA Para continuar fomentando devoción y creencia en la presencia real de Jesús en la Santísima Eucaristía y en conformidad con la instrucción general del Misal Romano (IGMR), el Obispo Vann ha pedido a los fieles de la diócesis de Orange que se arrodillen después del Cordero de Dios (Agnus Dei). Nuestras acciones y posturas durante la Misa nos ayudan a recordar que estamos en presencia de la Santa Eucaristía. Hay algunas excepciones, como en caso de enfermedad o aquellas parroquias que celebran Misa en un espacio temporal que no tienen reclinatorios. En esos casos, por favor, continúe mostrando reverencia a través de su plena participación en la Misa. Iniciaremos el cambio el fin de semana del18 y 19 de agosto.

Varias personas de nuestra parroquia que no pueden asistir a misa cada semana. Necesitamos de su ayuda para llevar la Santa Comunión y pasar un tiempo en oración con ellos. Necesitamos mas personas para poder cumplir con la demanda de este ministerio. También se les apoya a los feligreses activos que vayan a ser padrinos de Bautizo y/o Confirmación, con documentación confirmando que están inscritos en la parroquia. Los sobres: nuestra parroquia depende totalmente de la generosidad de los feligreses. PROGRAMA DE EDUCACIÓN RELIGIOSA Horario de Oficina de Educación Religiosa durante el verano lunes a viernes de 9am a 5pm y domingos de 9am a 1pm Seguimos aceptando Inscripciones para el Programa de Educación Religiosa para el año 2018-2019. Las Hermanas de St. Joseph y el Ministerio de Inmigración les invita a que se unan a nosotros en oración y ayuno en apoyo a los padres e hijos que inhumanamente han sido separados en nuestras fronteras. Únete a nosotros todos los jueves por la tarde de este verano a partir del 19 de julio de 6 p.m. a 7 p.m. en el área verde de la puerta lateral de la Basilica sobre la calle Camino Capistrano. Traiga a su familia, a sus vecinos y a sus amigos.
